A Photo Piece Exploring Uncomfortable and Comfortable MixedFolx Spaces
Mixed Spaces is a photo/interview project that will look at the experiences of Mixed individuals (those
who identify as having a multi-racial/ethnic/cultural background). The focus of these
experiences will be on the spaces and locations where the subject has felt either
comfortable or uncomfortable based on how they identify. This project is being conducted by HVY SKY productions.
SPECIFICATIONS
INTERVIEW: The interview portion will explore the experiences of being Mixed in
America and how different spaces can provide more or less comfort. There will be a
15-minute pre-interview with each subject to go over everything and best figure out
where the interview/photoshoot will take place. The audio of the interview will be
recorded and sections will be transcribed for the article.
PHOTOSHOOT: The key element to the photoshoot is the location. The photoshoot will
take place after the interview. The goal is to find a spot that is connected to what
was discussed in the interview. The locations can also be inspired by, similar to, or
metaphorical. During the pre-interview, we’ll also cover wardrobe, hair and makeup,
and stylistic tone.
Interviews and photoshoots will ideally happen on the same day but can be broken up
into multiple days.
