Identity - Photography Series by Hayley Palmer
Identity is such a layered, confusing thing, especially for mixed people. Often, we don’t match people’s preconceived image of a mixed person, whatever that may be. We’re not enough of one race, or too much of the other. We don’t really count. We don’t look like what they want us to. But identity isn’t a thing you can see. You can’t guess it from the shade of our skin, the shape of our eyes, the color of our hair, or the way that we talk. You can’t tell us what we are, trying to disprove something we know is true. So stop telling us we’re not what you expected. Eradicate the image in your mind of what a “mixed person” looks like. Stop telling us we aren’t enough.
