The Mask of the Melting Pot By Benecia Jude

Pitter-patter black and white

Unspoken hatred for the twilight

Bitter taste much like Othello’s face

Why must there be a fight against race?

The centuries of America’s institutionalization

Yet they conceal it with more gentrification

Minorities are convicted for crimes that are far from legitimate

Enforcing the bars of modern-day slavery of imprisonment

Pitter-patter black and white

Migrant children have lost their birthright

The child was separated from her mother

Who knows if she will ever recover?

They told me “to go back to my country”

I told them “I was born here, honey”

Pitter-patter black and white

Unspoken hatred for the twilight

Bitter taste much like Othello’s face

Why must there be a hidden fight against race?
